This Official US Military Foliage Green Poncho is made with 1.6 ounce polyurethane coated rip-stop nylon to withstand numerous foul weather conditions. The Wet Weather Poncho is made to take super tough field treatment – specifically designed to cope with the harshest elements in the world. The body (91.5″ X 65.5″) provides the ultimate in foul weather protection and numerous other applications: hasty shelter, body bag, cistern, floor covering, and sleeping bag cover. The poncho comes with an attached hood that is heat tape sealed to ensure 100% waterproof integrity. This Poncho comes with 16 snaps, our patented snap used on a United States Marine Corp tarp, and 8 heavy duty grommets to easily and quickly adapt to protect from unfavorable weather. You probably came here because you wanted to buy what you were issued back in the day. The good news is that you’ve come to the right place - and there is no bad news. I’ve read where some people were disappointed that the buttons were now plastic and/or that they were hard to button. It’s true, they’ve moved to a durable plastic - and yes, it can be briefly difficult to snap them until you figure out how to apply pressure and at what angle - and then it’s fast and easy. I was pretty happy with my initial purchase, so I bought another to make the two-poncho tent. Grommets and string/synch are of solid quality. You won’t be disappointed.
Most Excellent product
Finally a high-quality poncho that is the right size! I am 6'2 and this poncho is hands down the best one that I have been able to find. It provides full coverage, even of my arms, and the hood is good, and works great in the rain. Also, it seems more breathable than some other ponchos I have used - so I stayed much cooler in this poncho than in the ones made from different material.
The snaps can be difficult to snap, and I feel like they could be improved upon. They are sturdy plastic, and some worked better than others - I think they might have some 'warp' to them. Being two-sided (male/female), they are not smooth on one side - so the extra force needed to snap the snaps can hurt the fingers due to their shape. The drawstring on the hood is adequate, but probably could be improved.
Overall, I've found this to be a high-quality poncho at a good price point.
